Saarinen Milwaukee War Memorial Deconstructed
How far can a modernist building, some wood, and black and white line drawings go? Apparently, a long way when one is analyzing a building by the brilliant Eero Saarinen. I have always been a fan of monochrome, and the analytical power of line weights, hatching textures, and carefully used poches. This studio project is probably my best work in this genre. It explores primary and secondary massing, solid and void integration, grid detection, plan to section relationship, and street perforation (among other things) of this masterpiece of an edifice.
